Layouts, fic edits and K/S for everyone!

New Layout! Anyone think the header's too tall? I can't crop it anymore, though. Grrr. Have some alternatives, both AOS and TOS. Maybe I'll rotate? This is a slightly modified version of a layout by [livejournal.com profile] sireesanwar. The header image is one I've had on my HD for forever. Can't remember if it's a promotional piece, maybe? Don't think it's a fanwork, but if anyone recognizes it, please lemme know so I can ask permission.

K/S day was uberfun. Thanks to T'Lara for spending hours fighting with youtube to bring us all those rockin' fan vids. The drinking game kicked my ass. But it was an enjoyable ass-kicking.

Spent this morning going over old chapters of Kataomoi doing an re-edit. I'm hoping that after I finish the re-edit I can inspire myself to actually work towards finishing it. I'd forgotten how much I enjoy writing Ed. All fire-breathing and bluster and profanity with an insecure squishy center.

I like the look of the banner.

You know, the movie went AU so that they could throw out canon, which is fine because there really wasn't much of any (though SM makes GR, GLC etal look like real writers. Maybe not exactly). But I think they'll use it as a means to lose Spock's inimitable and tritely written character quirks, excuse me I mean of course his logical basis from which to view and judge life, the universe, and everything. I'm reserving judgment, but it's kind of like imagining Four without scarf and bug-eyed crazy grin.

Thank you for the layout feedback.

I love the acting in XI. But I have some issues with the characterization. I feel like Uhura's character was done a disservice (she has been relegated to a typical "love interest" and appears to have lost even a semblance of professionalism). I loved old school Uhura. Kirk was a bit over the top, but I can write that off as him being younger in this version.

And Spock playing public kissy-face still blows my mind every time. And not in a good way. A lot of what I've always loved about the character was (a) his relationship with Kirk, (b) his struggle to reconcile his human and Vulcan halves (i.e logic & emotion), and (c) his merciless snarking off McCoy and vice-versa.

I love parts of XI, and other parts much less so.

I liked Scotty and McCoy, mostly because they start out as full-fledged characters not extras that the producer didn't want to pay for. I agree about Uhura. That was sad. And they destroyed the character that made TOS unique. They destroyed Vulcan and any reason to act logical in public, killed Spock's mommie, changed his whole character, made him horny (damn, sounds like DW), changed Romulans but not in a funny way like the Klingons, make it clear it's AU by sending LN's Spock through a wormhole... I forget, does Kirk still lose his shirt?... and jump-started the AU Trek without any rules. But - and big but - because they made it clear it's AU they don't have to worry about TOS or NG or consistency; they can do whatever they want. THAT is how you reinvent a franchise but at some point the fan has to ask, why bother. Imagine an Enterprise where knowing how to throw a liar paradox is less important than birth control for the bridge.

I'm sorry I missed the rewatch. WS had one unbelievably gorgeous bunch of stuff.

And my re-obsession with this fandom is ALL. YOUR. FAULT. Srsly.
I'd be glaring at you but I'm in glazed-giddy fangirl mode right now. (*)_(*)
