I liked Scotty and McCoy, mostly because they start out as full-fledged characters not extras that the producer didn't want to pay for. I agree about Uhura. That was sad. And they destroyed the character that made TOS unique. They destroyed Vulcan and any reason to act logical in public, killed Spock's mommie, changed his whole character, made him horny (damn, sounds like DW), changed Romulans but not in a funny way like the Klingons, make it clear it's AU by sending LN's Spock through a wormhole... I forget, does Kirk still lose his shirt?... and jump-started the AU Trek without any rules. But - and big but - because they made it clear it's AU they don't have to worry about TOS or NG or consistency; they can do whatever they want. THAT is how you reinvent a franchise but at some point the fan has to ask, why bother. Imagine an Enterprise where knowing how to throw a liar paradox is less important than birth control for the bridge.
I'm sorry I missed the rewatch. WS had one unbelievably gorgeous bunch of stuff.
